The Vikings Are Coming: Team Denmark Confirmed For Peru

Denmark SUPWe’re just seven days away from the ISA’s World Standup Paddle and Paddleboard Championship in Miraflores. The event is set to attract two dozen paddling nations from around the world for a week of SUP racing, SUP surfing and Prone Paddleboarding, and so far we’ve met teams from as far away as Japan and Germany. Today it’s Team Denmark in the spotlight.

Led by up and coming star of the sport Casper Steinfath (aka the Danish Viking!), Denmark has a small but solid team of paddlers that will be looking to punch above their weight in Peru…

Casper is no stranger to international SUP racing, having claimed a very impressive podium spot at the 2012 BoP, followed up by a top three finish at the SUP World Series Finals in Hawaii. The young gun will compete in both the SUP racing and SUP surfing, but tells us that the races are his main focus.

“It has always been a dream of mine to represent Denmark at a World Championship, and I am really looking forward to competing against the rest of the world. It’s really interesting how the ISA World Championship format is different from normal contests. Here the focus is on national teams, and mixed in with a bit of nationalism and world class competitors I’m sure it will be an event to remember. The arch rivalry between Denmark and Sweden will not go unnoticed!

Right now I am on Maui tuning in my race board with the Naish team before I head out to Peru on Tuesday. I’m excited :-D”

Casper will be representing his country in Miraflores along with SUP surfers Karsten Krongaard and Annette Carsing. I’m stoked to see both Denmark and Sweden at the event. I’m a little biased seeing I live in Scandinavia half the year, but I think they’re going to surprise a few people with their results. But no matter where they finish, countries such as these two are definitely going to add some character and flair to the whole event. Let’s call it the Battle Of The Vikings…
