Another Big Weekend For SUP Racing Around The World

Another weekend and another huge round of Stand Up Paddle race action.

From California to the Côte dAzur, Sunset Beach to New South Wales, there’s plenty happening around the world.  Here’s a taste of some of the big SUP races coming up over the next couple of days.

(…and keep in mind this is just a sample of what’s happening this weekend; to see what other races are going down, as well as what’s coming up, check out our super comprehensive Stand Up Paddle Race Schedule)

In France you’ve got the SUP Race Cup, which is probably Europe’s biggest Stand Up Paddle race in terms of size, prestige and the level of competition. Florida’s Chase Kosterlitz has flown in to face off against European #1 Eric Terrien, while a whole host of local chargers from France and around Europe will be gunning to take them down.

The first event of this year’s Hennessey’s Paddleboard Racing Series is happening this Friday (25th) at Hermosa Beach, California. The Return To The Pier race is a 3.5mile course from Hermosa Pier to Manhattan Pier and back. Head down there if you’re in the area this afternoon (and get more info on the official site).

Meanwhile over in Hawaii you’ve got the Paddle For George, which is a fundraiser paddleboard race from Sunset Beach to Waimea Bay. All proceeds go to help local legend George Ramos in his battle against cancer.

Finally down in Australia, the Southern Cross SUP Festival is happening all weekend. The first races were held earlier today, with plenty more action coming up on the weekend.

A good chunk of Australia’s elite stand up paddle racers will be on the water hoping to qualify for August’s Surfing Australia National SUP Titles (which will be the qualifier for the 2013 ISA World SUP Championship).

Kelly Margetts already took out Friday’s Surf Race ahead of Beau O’Brian, with Long Distance, Relays, Sprints and a Dash For Cash on Saturday and Sunday.
