WATCH: SUP Racing In Paradise Gets Brutal… (Full Length Clip)

You’ve seen the photos, you’ve been teased with the trailer, now here’s the full length clip from IronMana 2013, aka one of the gnarliest races on the planet.

The IronMana race, part of the Bora Bora Liquid Festival in French Polynesia, went down in December 2013 and featured one of the most grueling formats in the sport. Part paddling, part swimming, all pain. Hence the name of their new feature clip: IronMana – Beyond The Pain.

The doco aired on Polynesian TV last night, but if you’re not lucky enough to live in paradise don’t despair – we’ve just gotten a hold of the full version. Yeah, it’s almost entirely in French so you probably won’t understand a word, but you’ll get the idea: It’s a race… in a beautiful paradise… and it’s BRUTAL.

The Tahitians and Polynesians are famous for their outrigging culture and the Bora Bora Festival seems to feature that OC heritage first and foremost. However there’s also a strong focus on Stand Up Paddling (as well as swimming, just to be cruel). The format consists of six different paddling/swimming races (combined times produce the overall results) and the grand finale is a 35km SUP race around the island.

IronMana will be back in December this year, so pencil it in as one of the SUP races on your 2014 bucket list. And get training now. By the looks of the video above, you’re gonna need it…
