Shakira Westdorp and Jake Jensen have taken out the Battle of the Paddle-style SUP race at the Noosa Festival of Surfing today. With 70 paddlers lining up and conditions perfect, this looked like it was a classic race.

Small 1-2ft waves, light winds and blue sunny skies made for a fun but hard fought contest. Jake, currently ranked #4 in the world, came home to take the win just ahead of rising talent James Casey, while his older brother, Jayden Jensen, was less than half a minute adrift in 3rd. Local Matt Nottage – another one of the young Aussies to keep an eye on – was 4th with current world #12 Lincoln Dews rounding out the top 5.

Meanwhile in the women’s race, Shak showed why she’s a former Battle of the Paddle California Elite Race champion and defending ISA gold medalist, putting on a masterclass to defeat not only all of the women but a good chunk of the men as well.

The Noosa Festival of Surfing is a major event happening all week on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It’s got everything from longboarding to dog surfing, with the BOP race headlining the opening day of action.
