Ollie Shilston Wins Penultimate Round Of UK Series

Ollie Shilston has taken out the Norfolk Broads SUP Race, the penultimate event of the 2014 UK SUP Clubs race series. Ollie beat home youngsters Pete Kosinski and Aaron Rowe, with the very slim final margin suggesting the lead draft train stayed intact almost right to the line.

Ollie is going to be in action again in a couple of weeks, however this next one will be a little bit further from home. The current UK #1 received a call up for the Ultimate SUP Showdown and will go head to head with a good chunk of the world’s best paddlers in Waikiki on the 17th and 18th. Very cool to see the UK represented in such an elite, invite-only race.

UPDATE: Due to logistics, Ollie couldn’t make it to Hawaii in time and had to withdraw his invite. Bummer!

But anyway back to the race: Over 50 paddlers turned out for the race on what was a typically overcast English day (sorry, couldn’t resist ;-). On the women’s side, Joanne Hamilton-Vale won yet again to cement herself at the top of the overall Series rankings.

Full results are below.

The Norfolk Broads race was event 9/10 in the 2014 UK SUP Clubs Race Series. The UK SUP Clubs group formed at the end of last year to unify the racing scene in the UK and, by the looks of the past few events, they’ve done a pretty good job of it.
