Boothy and Fiona make it a clean sweep of the Greek Islands

Boothy and Fiona finish on top for the second week in a row

Fiona Wylde and Michael Booth have made it a clean sweep of the Greek Islands for team Starboard, claiming today’s “Agios Nikolaos on SUP” event after conquering some of the gnarliest conditions we’ve seen all season. This follows on from their big wins on Corfu last week. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Today’s 14km race on the island of Crete had a bit of everything, from downwind to flat to one or two brutal kms of crazy headwind. The winners both went hard early but earned their big leads in different parts of the course: Boothy shut the door on the chase pack of Vinni Martins, Martin Vitry, Ty Judson, Arthur Arutkin, Noic Garioud and Enzo Bennett in the grueling upwinder, whereas Fiona setup her victory early on during the smoother downwind section. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
At one point it looked like Sonni Honscheid – competing in Europe for the first time this summer – and Sunova’s Amandine Chazot would close the gap on Fiona, but the plucky Oregonian held her nerve and held on for her fourth win from five EuroTour appearances this year. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
But in the men’s race it was all Boothy, again, with the VMG team rider showing he can win in any conditions whether it be flat and glassy or blowing 40 knots in every direction. Vinni went one better this year, stepping up to second on the podium after finishing third twelve months ago. It was a fighting effort from the Brazilian – one of the fan favourites here in Greece – with Vinni out-paddling five all-star names over the final kilometre Martin Vitry looked very good all day and was never outside the virtual podium, eventually settling for third behind Boothy and Vinni but ahead of Ty, Arthur, Chicken and Enzo. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
It was a great race that was at certain times fun, other times miserable and everything in between. Well done to everyone that got to the line, and thanks to the organisers for a great event. Thank you to everyone who tuned in on the live stream. Always a pleasure calling the action, even when we’re using makeshift gear Thanks to VMG and QB for helping make these EuroTour live streams possible! Time to hit the airport and get ready for a little paddle down a cold river in Canada…
