We’ve just heard that the 2012 Catalina Island SUP Festival has been cancelled. The event was set to run on the weekend of 6th/7th October at Catalina Island, one week after the Battle of the Paddle.

The inaugural Catalina SUP Festival was a major event last year. With the races being held just one week after the BoP, it meant a lot of pros could stick around and fit in another big race. It was set to be even bigger this year and I know a lot of the Aussie, Hawaiian and European crew were planning on sticking around to make the most of the Californian racing season.

SUP racers will still have something to do that weekend though, with a Stand Up World Series event scheduled for the 6th & 7th @ Huntington Beach. Oddly enough, Catalina Island lies about 40km directly off the coast from Huntington.
