Boothy bounces back from Bordeaux body blow to win Scharbeutz; Shrimpy and Sanchez in fine form

In brief: Aussie powerhouse Michael Booth has bounced back from last week’s disappointment in Bordeaux to win the seventh stop of the 2023 Euro Tour in Scharbeutz, Germany. Boothy capitalised on a mistake from the rest of the field – taking the wrong line around one of the buoys – to cement his advantage and post a big win that will give him confidence moving into the world championship second half of the season.

Japan’s wunderkind Shuri “Shrimpy” Araki fought hard for second spot and managed to keep one of Europe’s finest young talents in Aaron Sancez at bay. The fact that Noic Garioud finished fifth, Connor in sixth and Arthur Arutkin – a guy who used to be able to walk up to any podium – way down in ninth shows the talent on show in Europe at the moment.

This is going to be a very interesting showdown at the ISA and ICF World Championships later in the year – the only events outside the big Euro Tour stops where we’ll see genuinely competitive fields this year.
