Next Week: The Orange Bowl Paddle Champs; 2013’s First Big SUP Race
The first big SUP race of 2013 is just one week away: the Orange Bowl Paddle Champs in Miami. This is the event that Danny Ching narrowly won ahead of Jamie Mitchell 12 months ago, while Candice Appleby dominated the women’s event.
The Orange Bowl is happening on Sunday 13th at the Bayside Marketplace in downtown Miami, with a 7 mile Elite Race, 3 mile Rec Race and SUP Sprint Races all on the schedule. There’s also a tidy $13,000 on the line, with the prize money split looking something like this:
Men’s Elite 12’6″
1st: $3,500
2nd: $1,000
3rd: $500
Women’s Elite 12’6″
1st: $3,500
2nd: $1,000
3rd: $500
There’s also another $1,200 on offer for the 14′ class, plus $100 bonus prizes for the unlimited class, age group winners and the sprint races.
