Nine-Year-Old Kid’s Downwind Bravery
Boss Man’s note: Cool little clip courtesy of our South Africa correspondent Peter Petersen, showing off the skills of nine-year-old Cameron Tripney on his first ever downwind run.
So… how many of us had the guts to paddle through 25+ knot winds in a really cold patch of water that’s famous for its giant sharks… before our tenth birthday? Very nice effort from the young lad.
The world of Stand Up Paddling in South Africa is very strong, with some serious talent enjoying some epic downwind conditions. There’s a weekly downwind race series in Cape Town, which you can follow thanks to Peter’s regular updates.
